Himalayan Salt

Have I mentioned that I have a slight obsession with all things spa? I mean who doesn't like an occasional luxurious facial mask, or body scrub, a face massage, or even a face serum that works? But even more exciting to me is when you can whip up something at home!

Well,  I was doing shopping and came across this...Himalayan Pink Salt! Salts of all kinds have many health benefits when using externally (bath, body scrubs) ...did you know that salts pull toxins from tissues, balances your body's ph balance. Besides the scientific facts---its just pretty! By nature it has a soft pink hue. They look like crystals, little jewels. Aesthetically pleasing.

So on that note, my thoughts are how can I incorporate it in my life besides a scrub or bath? Answer: Soap!! Here I added it to soap and a few essential oils and I have to say I am very pleased with the results. It smells lovely and feels luxurious!

Word to the wise:

Preferred salts are
Hand picked
Sun dried
Never processed
Do not over use

For body scrubs - 4 parts salt, 1 part oil or simply mix to the consistency you like (olive oil, coconut oil), 10-20 drops of  *essential oil
For the bath - about 2 cups of salts (epsom, dead sea, etc.), 1/4 cup of  baking soda, 10-20 drops of  *essential oils
For soap- 1lb of melt and pour soap, 2 Tbl of Himalayan salts, 3 tsp of *essential oils

* essential oils are optional.
*essential oils have wonderful health promoting properties. Deserves a post of it's own. Meanwhile, head over to your wholefoods store and chat up the professional at the beauty/health counter. Or take a whiff of store samples to see what ignites your engine. Use wisely.

Follow up on meat free meals Day 3 and 4:

Day 3: Breakfast - see yesterday's post
Lunch - Veggie sandwich
Dinner - Ramen noodles with veggies
Dessert - Ice Cream Sundae

Day 4: Breakfast - Scrambled Eggs, Broccoli, Morning Star crumbles
Lunch  - Veggie sandwich
Cereal with Almond Milk
Dinner - Fettuccine with Alfredo Sauce and faux Chick'n strips
Dessert - Ice Cream Sandwich
Snacks - Nuts & dried fruit.

What I thought of the faux chick'n strips.
The positive- it was something I can bite into (by day 4, I really missed the usual flavor and texture of meat. I am not a HUGE meat eater but I can have a little and be satisfied). The outer texture or initial bite into the strips was decent. I particularly liked the spices/flavorings.
The not as positive - nope, doesn't taste like chicken. nope, no where near the real bite of a chicken thigh.

Overall, It's fine but I don't want to consume a lot of soy products but for the sake of this exercise, it's acceptable.

So that's all for now. Hope your weekend is well underway! Let's meat again...oops! Let's meet again soon!
