I had the privilege of spending the day with my Sister and Nephews. Remember I am practically an empty nester so this was a real treat to hang out with kids on a Saturday excursion. Check this out...
We stopped at Cabrillo Beach, San Pedro, CA
If you are ever in the area and have some grade school kids...its a great place to pop in for a look see!
Here is my lil' nephew, Joshua, checking out the sun dial in the Museum's courtyard. Did I mention that admission is free? But please make a small donation. It will help to keep the doors open.
The Cabrillo Marine Aquarium has the Main Exhibit Hall which includes the Tidepool Touch Tank and they have The Exploration Center, and the Aquatic Nursery, and even a research library.
It's an interactive Museum,,,which are the best! The more senses they use the more they can retain information. And its a lot more exciting than just looking. "Don't touch." signs makes everyone yawn, right?!
Here is Joshua (left) and Cristian (Right) touching sea urchins. Can't tell whose poking whom, those things are spiky!
Other touching tank options...
In the fish tank (Cristian, Amy, Joshua)! Ok. Under the fish tank.
The Museum has a costume and hand puppet area. You can dress up as a sting-ray, shark, starfish, etc. Or you can play with hand puppets--turtles, octopus, and such. And there is a reading area with jigsaw puzzles. Here is Joshua so proud of the finished puzzle. Good job!
We later walked the beach and Cristian was thrilled to find this shell, only it was still occupied! Surprise! But we did end up skipping rocks on the water and found some interesting shells and rocks. Little things to remember our special day out.
.
Here is the view from the rocks we were standing on.
This was only a fraction of our day. Our first stop was the USS Iowa Battleship BB-61 which is just a few miles from Cabrillo Beach!
Here are a few pictures..
The bottom line. We all had a great time together exploring new and familiar things!
Thanks for stopping by..
