Friday Facial - Review

Discovered the following Kelp Facial Recipe and thought I'd give it a try...

According to: Yahoo.com
Kelp or Seaweed is full of beneficial antioxidants and antibacterial qualities. When you include it in beauty treatments, it works as a moisturizer and gentle exfoliant. It will leave your skin soft, smooth, and moisturized.
Note: Kelp can stain light colored clothing, towels, washcloths, and body mitts.
Rejuvenating Kelp Facial Mask
6 T dried kelp powder
¾ c aloe vera gel
Distilled water
Mix kelp powder and aloe vera gel, and stir in enough distilled water to create a thick paste. Smooth the kelp facial on face and leave for 30 minutes. Rinse with tepid water.

Here are my thoughts: I've seen and heard of many high end spas offering seaweed/kelp body wraps, facials and scrubs services for hundreds of dollars for a one time treatment.

It only makes sense that kelp has skin and health benefits. So much healing is available in and from the ocean like fish, fish oil. Why wouldn't a living plant from the sea be a great ingredient for a facial? So let's dive in!

I adjusted the recipe a bit. I used about 3 Tbl of kelp, about 2 Tbl of aloe vera gel, and about 2 Tbl of drinking water.

Although I have adjusted the original recipe it was still quite thick! I almost had to press on my face for the stuff to stick and stay on my face. Cause you're going to leave it on for 30 minutes. And I still had plenty of the mixture left over so I slathered some on my arms.

Warning: the scent of this stuff is potent!! It took some self discipline not to take it off after just a few minutes! Reminder, this stuff can stain light colored clothing and towels. I would advise you to wear clothes that you don't care about before you start the facial. So you may want to keep that in mind if you decide to give this a try.

I used my 'hair dying' towel and folded it a few times and sat on the edge of my bathtub until it was time to wash off.

Special note: I am NOT prone to allergies or have any special diet per se. Anytime I share DIY please be wise, know yourself, know your body. Do your research. Check with your doctor. Because ultimately you are responsible for what you do, what you eat, etc. It's not my intention to harm anyone!

And because you know I like deep discounts..a 1 lb. bag of the best quality kelp was under $5.00. You can throw a spa party with this stuff!

Products I used:
Kelp Powder from Vitacost.com
Aloe Vera gel from Vitacost.com

So what do you say... let's make an effort to keep nature natural by keeping our oceans litter free.
If you give this a try..I would love to hear from you!

Have a great weekend!
